If you like nature, the greens, the refreshing unpolluted air of the mountains when in Cebu — then Mantalongon is the place to be. After all, it’s also the vegetable basket of the province. It’s actually one of the barrios of Dalaguete (some 80 kilometers south of Cebu City) and where the highest mountain (1,013 meters above sea level) of Cebu is located — the Osmena Peak.
To get to Mantalongon: Coming from Cebu City, a commuter in fact has 2 choices — South Bus Terminal or near Carbon Market (Caltex gasoline station just before the bridge). Carbon Market is for the adventurous as here, buses are far and few, so you got to be ready to wait and squeeze your way inside the bus. South Terminal is more organized but then you’d need connecting rides and so, pay more.
Carbon Market, P100 from Caltex to Mantalongon market proper. That’s it. South Bus Terminal, the Ceres bus would ask around P100 to Dalaguete — take the Oslob route — then you’d need to take a motorbike which would cost at least P200 on a special ride. Travel time is just about the same, 3 hours, unless there’s traffic or lots of cargoes being loaded that the bus couldn’t immediately leave.
Obviously, I took the Carbon Market route, not bad really unless if you’ve got more than a handful of stuff. Still, when you finally arrive, it’s certainly a relief especially with a cooler climate than in the city.
Well, just so nice to see all those fresh vegetables and where they are actually coming from. And now, we’re just about hours from our next adventure, yeah..
Mountain climbing! Until next time!
