Even as Patrick says so, “use whatever wine, all that matters is it’s sparkling and dry.” The issue for this tho is that since the amount of wine is just estimated — according to taste, that is — it’s sorta tough since the taste could vary with such, and that you may no longer drinking French 75 but 76. Hehe.
Notice the ingredients? Sweet vermouth. Old Tom Gin. Maraschino liqueur. Angostura bitters. Orange bitters. Lemon. Well, they’re a little more complex than the cocktail ingredients that we have featured before. And t’is a drier version. A predecessor to the Martini, yep, another one of those classic cocktails.
Then again, it’s for viewers to get it right. Okay.
Now altho sugar could be used in place of syrup, yes just in case you didn’t have any at that instance; still, if only for easier preparation then it would be best stock up on syrup for future use. For then, you’d not need to muddle and dissolve syrup unlike sugar anymore!
See? One of the ingredients, the Amer Picon, is in fact not readily available in some places; thus, you’d have to settle for substitutes — like the Ramazzotti, yeah, even as many drinkers suggests.
Would it still be a Brooklyn then? Of course, though the taste could vary depending on the kind of whiskey and vermouth you use. As for the Maraschino, try the Luxardo which is rather sweet to make up for the dryness in vermouth.
Yes, thank God it’s Friday! No, it’s a Saturday! Ahh then, another round of cocktails?? Well, this time we bring you the Last Word.
My, does it sound a little creepy?
Hmm… Guess the video presenter does. I mean, creepy. Kinda monotonous and fast for many to even understand what he’s saying — that ’em video shots were only good for his ‘tools’. Hehe. Not the ingredients’ measurements. T’was vague.
Isn’t sort of interesting? You know, they’re all in equal parts so, shouldn’t the taste be like ‘confusing’? Well..
Not confusing but but sharp and tangy.
So, if you can’t take it, you could change the base liquor from gin to say.. Rye whiskey. Like the recipe of Phil Ward for one. Just be ready to spend a little, these ingredients are bit heavy on the pocket.
Whether there’s a celebration or not, it’s always good to have a drink; yes, to relax and help relieve some of the stress life has given us for the week.
And so now we bring you the Manhattan.
Hmm… What do you think, easy to prepare, right? Most cocktails actually are easy to make. Yet for this one, shaking is a no-no instead you have to stir it; and get that classic taste.
Oh by the way, the Manhattan is also one of those six basic drinks named in The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks — so yeah, it’s a must-taste.
Still, a beginner might be a little disappointed in this drink especially if you’re used to sodas, or even beer. Well, it’s like that fruity flavored medicine you used to drink as a child, you know. It’s a bit bitter. But of course, as you get used to it — it’ll get used to you, too. Haha.
Anyway, and as usual, there are more than a handful of variations for cocktails and the Manhattan is no exception. Like, instead of Whiskey, you could use either Brandy or dark Rum.
Today’s cocktail could give you an idea of where the names of Titanic’s fictional characters came from, eh?! Remember, Jack and Rose??
Well, that’s right. Our cocktail is called Jack Rose; but this time, they won’t make us cry instead it’d make us a little more ‘talkative’ before putting us to bed. Hehe, really. And so, let’s see how it’s done..
Wow, those strainers and stuff just made the drink a little daunting to make! Other cocktails only uses the measuring cup, the shaker and the glass — this one’s got more, whew!
Yet it’s pretty interesting, don’t ya’ think? It must be quite pure; and in fact, it’s one of the six basic drinks listed in The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks.
But how does it really taste? Hmm… Better try it yourself, your palate would know. Haha! Seriously, with apple and lemon in the mix then it must be kinda tarty sweet.
Still, some may find it more like ‘real’ apple than like apple candies which is good; and while others would say, “fortunately, it’s not like some kid’s medicine” which is better.
Thus, when looking for your ingredients, make sure you got the best quality — or at least, the best substitute. Yup, to better enjoy this classic, you know.
Till next time!
